Woman killed man for money

GB Road murder: Woman killed man for money

NEW DELHI: A failed affair and a woman's greed for money led to the murder of a 44-year-old businessman in central Delhi's GB Road. The man's body was recovered from the Geeta Colony flyover with the feet tied with a towel. Police said they identified the man as Satvinder Singh Bobby by a Metro card and a tattoo which also led them to the killer.

The decomposing body of the Sikh man was found on Friday and taken to Lok Nayak hospital for autopsy. The left hand had a tattoo showing a heart pierced by an arrow with the words "I love Mitti" written on it.

Police said that Bobby, a resident of Punjab, had recently shifted to Delhi and set up a shop at Kashmere Gate. He was staying in Pitampura but would frequently visit a woman named Mamta at GB Road. Cops said that apart from Mamta, Bobby had an illicit relationship with another woman named Poonam and often had arguments with both of them over the affairs.

Last Monday, Bobby had won Rs 50,000 in a lottery and told this to Poonam after a few drinks at her house. They had an argument with Poonam accusing Bobby of spending the money on other women. She asked him to give her a share, but he gave her Rs 2,000 saying that she should be happy with it. He even asked her to leave him alone, which irked Poonam.

After Bobby fell asleep, she strangled him using a towel. She then dragged the body to another room and kept it inside a bed box with the help of her cousin Priya. She informed her uncle a day later and they decided to dispose the body. Her uncle Virender called his friend Satyapal, an autorickshaw driver, late at night and dumped the body at Geeta Colony flyover. Priya removed the shoes, mobile phone and wallet of the man and threw it into the river.

CCTV footages showed Bobby at New Delhi Metro station and later heading towards GB Road. When cops were searching for Mitti, locals identified him and told them about his affairs. Poonam was detained and interrogated during which she admitted to the murder. Virender and Satyapal were also arrested. A case of murder was registered against her, while Virender and Satyapal were booked for aiding her in removing evidence. Priya, too, has been arrested.
